What does liver taste like?

My husband wants to try cooking liver, but I've always been a bit apprehensive about the taste. What does liver taste like? Is it very strong or gamey, or something else?

Honestly, it has a very strong, metallic, and earthy taste, and the texture is quite dense and a bit chalky if overcooked. Some people love it with heavy spices, but I personally found it too intense when I tried it at a local dhaba. If you are trying it for the first time, make sure it's cooked with lots of onions and masala.

Cooked liver has a distinct, rich, iron-like metallic flavor and a very soft, smooth texture when prepared correctly. From a nutritional perspective, it is incredibly rich in iron and vitamin A, which is great for health, but some find the earthy taste hard to like. If you want to try it, soaking it in milk or lemon juice before cooking can reduce that strong metallic smell.

According to my macro tracker, liver is a absolute superfood because it's packed with protein and micro-nutrients, but the taste is definitely unique—very earthy, rich, and iron-heavy. The texture is dense and smooth, almost like a thick paste if cooked well. It's a great addition to a high-protein diet if you can get used to that distinct metallic flavor.

Liver has a very strong, iron-rich, and slightly bitter taste that is completely different from normal chicken or mutton meat. Because of my busy work hours, I rarely cook it at home since cleaning and preparing it right takes a lot of time. If you want to try it, I'd suggest ordering a well-reviewed masala liver fry from a good restaurant first.

When my doctor recommended liver for my son's low iron levels, I was worried about the strong, metallic, and slightly bitter taste. To make it palatable for him, I cooked it with a lot of roasted onions, ginger, and traditional spices which completely masked the gamey flavor. Now he eats it without any fuss, and his health has improved so much.
