What does liver failure look like?

My mother-in-law was just admitted to the hospital with some serious symptoms, and the doctors are concerned about her liver. What does liver failure actually look like in terms of outward signs or symptoms? I'm worried and trying to understand.

Liver failure looks like a highly visible physical change—the skin and the whites of the eyes turn a deep yellow, the abdomen swells up heavily with fluid, and there is noticeable swelling in the legs. Don't let yourself get overwhelmed with fear seeing this. Just stay calm, support them, and get them to a hospital emergency room immediately.

I recently recovered from severe liver failure, and physically I looked completely yellow, my stomach was tight and swollen like a balloon, and I was too disoriented to speak clearly. It was a terrifying experience, but timely medical intervention saved my life. If you see anyone looking like this, get them to a hospital immediately.

As someone managing diabetes, I know how fast organ complications can escalate if ignored. Liver failure typically looks like intense jaundice, severe fluid retention causing a very distended stomach, and deep mental confusion or slurred speech. This is a critical medical emergency, so please consult a specialist at once.

It is absolutely heartbreaking and terrifying to watch a loved one look so weak, with yellow skin, a swollen abdomen, and confusion where they barely recognize you. I struggled so much emotionally when we went through this in our family. Please hold onto hope, stay strong, and get them the urgent medical care they need.

Let's be very direct: liver failure looks like severe jaundice with bright yellow eyes, a heavily bloated stomach full of fluid, and extreme drowsiness or confusion. This isn't something you treat with home remedies or wait out. Take the patient to a hospital emergency ward right now.
