What does hernia pain feel like?

My neighbour recently had surgery for a hernia. I'm wondering, what does hernia pain actually feel like? Is it a sharp, sudden pain or more of a persistent discomfort?

For me, it started as a heavy, dragging feeling in the lower abdomen that got worse when standing. I used to apply a warm compress for temporary comfort, but honestly, those home tips only help so much. Please don't ignore it if the pain gets sharp or you feel nauseous—get it checked by a doctor immediately.

Bro, it's like this annoying tugging pain that acts up every time you try to lift weights at the gym or even laugh hard. You can actually feel a tiny lump pushing out sometimes when you stand up. Don't try to push it back yourself, just get it checked out before it starts hurting real bad.

In our times, we used to say a hernia feels like a pulling pressure, like something is trying to push through the muscle wall. While keeping your digestion smooth with warm water and fiber prevents straining, there is no home cure for this. You must consult a surgeon to see if it needs a proper repair.

It feels like a deep, dull ache, especially when you cough, sneeze, or try to lift something. I noticed my body tensing up a lot, so gentle breathing and light stretches helped manage the discomfort. But you must listen to your body and avoid any heavy core exercises until a doctor assesses the bulge.

I completely understand how scary this feeling can be, especially when you start Googling every symptom! It usually feels like a dull pressure or a burning sensation around a specific bump, which can make you panic. Take a deep breath, stop reading scary articles online, and just book a quick physical exam with a general surgeon to clear your mind.
