What does fatty liver looks like?

My recent medical report mentioned I have a 'fatty liver'. I'm a bit confused, I thought it was only for heavy drinkers. What does a fatty liver look like, maybe on an ultrasound report, or are there any external signs?

Well, inside your body, it means your liver cells have too much fat! 😱 On an ultrasound, it usually looks brighter or more 'echogenic' than a healthy liver. But don't worry, with lifestyle changes, it can often get better! 💪

I'm new to all this, so trying to understand. So, it's not something you can see from outside, right? Only through tests? And does it always mean it's serious?

Internally, a fatty liver is literally a liver with excess fat stored in its cells. This changes its appearance on imaging scans. It highlights why a low-fat, balanced vegetarian diet rich in vegetables and whole grains is so important for liver health.

On the outside, you won't see anything, beta. But on an ultrasound or CT scan, the doctor can see if there's fat in your liver. They usually tell you if it's 'bright' or 'echogenic'. It sounds complicated but means fat is there. The solution is simple: better food and some walking.

I was actually looking this up for a project! From what I found, a healthy liver is usually a uniform reddish-brown. But with fatty liver, it might appear enlarged and have a yellowish, greasy look due to the fat accumulation. It's quite visually different internally.

It's totally understandable to be worried and want to know how it looks. But remember, you can't see it with your eyes. It's something doctors detect through medical imaging like an ultrasound or MRI, where the liver shows signs of fat accumulation. Focus on what you can do – healthy changes!

From what my doctor explained, it's not like you can 'see' it from the outside on your body. It's an internal thing that shows up on ultrasounds or other scans where the liver looks different, like it has more fat. That's why blood tests and scans are key to catching it.
