What does diabetes neck look like?

I've noticed my neck sometimes looks a bit darker or has some patchy discolouration, and I heard it could be linked to diabetes. What does a 'diabetic neck' or acanthosis nigricans actually look like? Is it a very distinct sign?

Hey, don't stress too much about it! You're probably thinking about 'acanthosis nigricans.' It's when the skin on your neck, armpits, or groin gets dark, thick, and velvety. It looks like dirty skin, even if you scrub it. It's a sign of insulin resistance, often seen before full-blown diabetes. So if you see that, time for a doc visit, but no need to panic.

I've heard about something called a 'dirty neck' look, but I haven't personally experienced it or seen it in my immediate family with diabetes. My own neck looks normal, thank God. I can only speak from my own experience, not what medically happens to others.

With PCOS, insulin resistance is common, and I've noticed darkening of the skin on my neck and sometimes underarms, which is called acanthosis nigricans. It looks like the skin is thicker, darker, and almost velvety, like it's stained or dirty. It's often an early warning sign for diabetes or pre-diabetes. It's important to get it checked by a doctor, not to self-diagnose.

That darkening of the neck skin, acanthosis nigricans, is a big indicator of insulin resistance. While I can't give medical advice, I've seen that diet plays a huge role in managing insulin sensitivity. Eating a balanced vegetarian diet, low in processed sugars and refined carbs, can really help improve overall health and might reduce such skin changes.

Haan, sometimes, people with diabetes, especially pre-diabetes, can get dark patches on their neck and even armpits. It's called acanthosis nigricans. It looks like the skin has become darker and a bit thicker, almost like it's not clean. It's a sign from the body that something needs attention, usually related to blood sugar. Don't worry too much, but do talk to a doctor.

I remember seeing some darkening on my neck and freaked out, thinking it was definitely diabetes. Turns out, it's called acanthosis nigricans and is a sign of insulin resistance, which can lead to diabetes, but it's not full-blown diabetes itself. With diet changes and exercise, mine actually lightened up. It's a warning sign, not necessarily a death sentence, so get checked, but don't panic.
