What does cancer breath smell like?

My father is quite unwell, and lately, there's a distinct, strange smell to his breath that wasn't there before. The doctor is doing tests, and I'm very worried. What does cancer breath sometimes smell like, are there any common descriptions?

I totally get why you'd be asking this, it's natural to be worried about changes in your body. When my uncle was unwell, his breath did have a slightly different, metallic kind of smell sometimes. It was subtle, but noticeable, especially in the mornings.

Beta, don't worry too much just yet. There are many reasons for bad breath, and cancer is just one of them, and not the most common. If you are concerned, best to speak to a doctor. They can give you proper answers and put your mind at ease.

Honestly, it's hard to describe a specific smell because it can vary a lot, depending on the type and stage. If you're experiencing unusual breath odor, please consult a dentist first, then a doctor if it persists. Don't waste time on self-diagnosis from the internet.

It's often described as a metallic or foul odor. Best to check with a doctor if you're concerned.

I've read about a 'fruity' or 'fishy' smell sometimes, and it makes me so anxious. Has anyone here personally experienced or noticed a specific smell like that in someone close to them? Just wondering if it's actually that distinct.
