What does a rheumatoid arthritis flare feel like?

My elder brother was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis a few years back. He's been having some bad days recently, saying his joints feel much worse. What does a rheumatoid arthritis 'flare' actually feel like for someone going through it?

A rheumatoid arthritis flare feels truly debilitating, not just physically but emotionally too. It's intense joint pain, stiffness that lasts for hours, severe fatigue that makes simple tasks impossible, and sometimes even a low-grade fever. You feel completely exhausted and miserable. It's hard to explain to others how draining it is when your own body feels like it's attacking itself. Hang in there if you're experiencing this.

A RA flare can be very severe, more than just general pain. It's usually intense joint pain, swelling, and stiffness, often in multiple joints, sometimes with fatigue and flu-like symptoms. I've seen how quickly it can cause damage if not addressed. If you suspect a flare, please see your rheumatologist right away. Don't wait for it to pass; timely intervention can prevent complications.

A RA flare means your joints get seriously painful, swollen, and stiff, usually worse in the morning. You'll also feel extremely tired, like a deep fatigue. Sometimes a low fever comes with it. It's not just a bad day for your joints, it's your immune system acting up. Get it checked if you feel this way.

Oh, this sounds very difficult. So, is it different from just normal joint pain? Like, is it always in the morning? And does it make you really tired, like completely drained? I'm trying to understand the difference. Thank you for sharing.

An RA flare feels like intense pain and swelling in your joints, significant stiffness, and often debilitating fatigue. Given the severity, it often requires medication adjustments or new tests. Remember to discuss the costs of new treatments or diagnostic tests with your doctor during a flare, so you can plan your expenses practically.
