What does a mental health crisis look like?

My cousin has been acting very differently recently, becoming withdrawn and sometimes having angry outbursts. His family is worried it might be a mental health crisis. What are the signs, or what does a mental health crisis look like?

I totally get it, seeing someone go through a mental health crisis can be deeply distressing and confusing. It can look like severe panic attacks, intense crying spells, complete withdrawal from family, or expressions of hopelessness. Please reach out to a professional counselor or helpline immediately to get them the right support.

Hey, don't stress too much, we can get through this together. A crisis can look like sudden extreme mood swings, severe anxiety, or just not being able to function in daily life because of overwhelming thoughts. Let's make sure we talk to a professional therapist right away to help ease the load.

While maintaining a clean, balanced vegetarian diet supports general brain health, a true mental health crisis is a medical emergency. It can show as extreme agitation, inability to sleep for days, or talking about self-harm. Please seek immediate help from a qualified psychiatrist or hospital.

I am really new to this and a bit hesitant to ask, but does a mental health crisis always involve loud emotional outbursts? Or can it also look like someone just becoming extremely quiet and refusing to speak to anyone for days? I am worried about my roommate and want to understand how to help.
