What does a mental health blackout look like?

I've been under a lot of stress lately, and sometimes I feel like I'm just not 'there,' like my mind goes completely blank for a while. A friend called it a 'mental health blackout.' What exactly does a mental health blackout look like or feel like?

When my stress levels are sky-high, I sometimes completely forget if I had my lunch or what I ordered. A mental health blackout often looks like losing track of time, where you find yourself standing somewhere but can't recall the last hour. If this is happening, please talk to a professional counselor.

Don't panic, but a mental health blackout can feel like a sudden blank space in your memory during high stress or trauma. Externally, a person might just look like they are staring blankly or are completely unresponsive for a few minutes. Let's make sure you speak to a doctor or therapist who can help you feel safe and grounded.

In our community support groups, people often describe this as dissociation. It looks like suddenly 'waking up' and realizing you have lost a chunk of time, or not remembering what you just did or said during an emotional breakdown. It is a sign of extreme stress, and consulting a psychiatrist is very important.

Haan, it is actually a very scary experience when your mind just shuts off due to extreme anxiety, na. You might be talking to someone but suddenly you feel completely detached, like you are watching yourself from outside and can't recall the conversation later. Please see a therapist, don't ignore these mind signs.

I panicked so much when I forgot an entire hour of my day during a stressful week at work, thinking my brain was failing. It turned out to be a temporary stress response called dissociation, which got better once I managed my anxiety with therapy. It can be normal under heavy pressure, but do consult a specialist.

Managing high BP has taught me that chronic stress affects both the heart and the brain. A mental health blackout can manifest as sudden confusion, loss of memory of recent events, or a blank dazed look. It is vital to get a full medical evaluation to rule out neurological causes and address the stress.
