What does a kidney infection feel like for a woman?

My sister told me she had a kidney infection once and it was really painful. I'm wondering what to look out for in case I ever get one. What does a kidney infection feel like for a woman?

Please do not ignore this at all. I thought my lower back pain was just because of routine house chores, but it turned out to be a severe kidney infection that landed me in the hospital. If you feel a burning sensation when you pee along with a deep ache in your lower back or side, go get a urine test immediately.

While drinking lots of water and tender coconut water helps flush things out, a kidney infection is serious. For women, it often starts as a UTI with frequent urination, but then moves to the lower back with a bad fever and chills. Please see a doctor for proper antibiotics because home remedies alone cannot cure a deep kidney infection.

I agree with others here. For us women, the pain in the lower back is often accompanied by a constant, painful urge to urinate and a high fever.

When my sister had it, she couldn't even look at her favourite spicy street food because of the constant nausea. It feels like a heavy, throbbing pain in your side and back, plus you feel totally drained of energy. If you are losing your appetite and feeling feverish with back pain, please consult a doc.

Do not listen to anyone telling you to drink random herbal juices to cure this. Kidney infections are bacterial and can become very dangerous if left untreated, causing severe back pain, shivering, and vomiting. Skip the online forums and go straight to an obstetrician or general physician for a proper prescription.

Hey, it is honestly the worst feeling ever. I thought it was just bad period cramps at first, but the pain moved to my upper back and I got a crazy high fever with chills during my lectures. If you are feeling this, dont wait around and just visit the college clinic or a doctor.
