What do eczema flare ups look like?

I have eczema, but it's usually quite mild. Lately, my skin has been getting very red and itchy in some spots, more than usual. What do eczema flare-ups typically look like, so I can tell if this is a proper flare-up or something else?

They start as dry, red, extremely itchy patches. Please see a proper skin doctor instead of trying random creams. I scratched mine until it cracked, got a severe bacterial infection, and had to be put on strong antibiotics.

For my son, the patches looked dry, bumpy, and dark pink, almost like a harsh rash. We went to a leading dermatologist at Fortis who gave us a clear treatment plan and explained the triggers. I highly suggest getting a proper clinical diagnosis rather than guessing online.

They look like dry, flaky skin patches that get very red and irritated when scratched. I know it can feel very uncomfortable and frustrating. Just try to keep the area cool and moisturized, and take care.

An eczema flare-up usually looks like rough, raised, reddish or brownish patches, often in the folds of the elbows or behind the knees. The skin can feel very thick and dry. Keep a good, fragrance-free moisturizer handy and apply it immediately after bathing.

I absolutely panicked the first time I saw these red, scaly patches on my wrists, thinking it was some crazy contagious disease. It turned out to be just standard eczema. It looks intense but with a mild doctor-prescribed ointment and regular moisturizing, it clears up nicely.
