What delineates the boundaries between the abdominal and pelvic cavities?

As a curious retired professor, I'm trying to understand human anatomy better. From an anatomical perspective, what actually delineates the boundaries between the abdominal and pelvic cavities? I'm finding some conflicting information.

Beta, yeh sab sharir ki baatein toh bade log doctors hi acche se samjhate hain. Humari bhasha mein toh pet ke neeche ka hissa kamar ke paas se shuru ho jaata hai. Agar koi takleef hai toh achhe doctor ko dikhao, woh sab bata denge.

The abdominal cavity and pelvic cavity are continuous, but the boundary is usually marked by the pelvic inlet (also called the superior pelvic aperture). This is an imaginary plane that goes from the sacral promontory posteriorly to the pubic symphysis anteriorly. It's more of an anatomical landmark.

Achha, ye sab toh school mein biology mein padha tha!

Tumhari jo kamar ki haddi hai na, uske andar ka jo opening hai, that's the boundary. Upar pet ke organs, neeche pelvic organs. Medical term mein pelvic inlet bolte hain isko. Clear hai?

Honestly, I used to ignore any pains in that lower stomach area thinking it was just gas or something. But after a serious infection, my doctor explained how important it is to distinguish. The pelvic inlet is the main boundary. If you have symptoms, get it checked, don't ignore it like I did.

Think of it this way: the pelvic inlet is like an imaginary line or boundary. It's formed by your sacrum bone at the back, part of your hip bones on the sides, and your pubic bone in the front. Basically, it separates the lower part of your tummy area from the very bottom, where reproductive organs are. So, above that line is abdominal, below is pelvic.

Hey! Don't stress too much about the exact medical terms unless you're a doctor lol. Basically, there's this imaginary line at the top of your pelvis, called the pelvic brim. Everything above it is abdominal, and below it is pelvic. Hope that helps you understand! Take care!

While knowing the anatomy is good, if you're asking because of pain or symptoms in that area, please don't just rely on general info. I once had a small issue that felt 'borderline' between the two and it turned out to be more serious. See a doctor for a proper diagnosis.

This kind of anatomical stuff always makes me think about where exactly my pains are coming from! It's the pelvic inlet, a ring of bone. But sometimes, symptoms can feel like they're crossing over. If you're having any discomfort in that region, please get it checked out, okay?

It's separated by the pelvic inlet. This is a bony ring formed by the sacral promontory, arcuate lines of the ilium, and the pubic crest. Basically, it's the opening at the top of your pelvis.

I actually learned about this recently when I had a scan for a cyst! The sonologist pointed out the 'pelvic brim' which is essentially the boundary. It's where the abdominal organs technically end and the pelvic organs begin. It’s an imaginary line but super important for scans.

Oh, this sounds like a biology question! From what I remember, it's like an imaginary line at the top of your hip bones, called the pelvic inlet or pelvic brim. Above that is abdominal, below is pelvic. Not super obvious from outside, but anatomically it's a thing!
