What causes urine acidity?

I've been noticing that my urine has a very strong, acidic smell sometimes, and I also feel a slight burning sensation. I drink a lot of water but it's still happening. What causes urine acidity and is it something to worry about?

I just recovered from high urine acidity last month. For me, it was because I was drinking barely one litre of water a day and eating too much spicy food. Increasing my water intake and eating simple curd-rice really solved it.

Urine acidity is usually due to dehydration or high protein intake. A very simple and workable solution is to drink fresh coconut water and lots of regular water throughout the day. But if you have a burning sensation while urinating, please visit a doctor for a proper test.

When I consulted my doctor, she explained that urine acidity (low pH) is often caused by a diet very high in meats and grains, chronic diarrhea, or uncontrolled blood sugar. She advised balancing my diet with alkaline foods and monitoring my hydration levels closely.

I ignored the burning feeling and acidic urine for weeks thinking it would clear up on its own, and it turned into a severe kidney infection. Please don't make the same mistake I did. Go get a urine test done at a clinic immediately.

Yes, dehydration is the most common reason for this. Try drinking at least 2-3 liters of water daily to see if it helps.

Highly acidic urine can sometimes indicate underlying issues like kidney stones or metabolic imbalance. I prefer going to a good hospital and getting a urine routine test done. It is best to ask your doctor clearly to get the right treatment.

Uncontrolled blood sugar can sometimes lead to acidic urine and ketones. Because I manage diabetes, I always keep my diet in check and never try sugary juices to 'cool' the body. Better to drink plain water and consult your diabetologist for proper advice.
