It is an autoimmune condition where the body's immune system attacks the tissues around the eyes. Consulting an ophthalmologist along with your endocrinologist is the most balanced way to manage this.

And here I was thinking my dry, puffy eyes were just from staying up till 3 AM scrolling on Instagram! Jokes aside, if it's connected to thyroid, better get it checked before you look like a perpetually surprised owl.

I have seen a neighbor deal with bulging eyes due to thyroid years ago. With regular eye drops and proper thyroid tablets, her eyes went back to normal, so do not lose heart.

This is typically associated with Graves' disease where antibody confusion causes swelling behind the eyes. Get an appointment with a specialist eye doctor immediately instead of self-medicating.

Don't delay this because eye tissue changes can worsen if left untreated. Save your time and consult a specialized neuro-ophthalmologist who handles thyroid eye disease directly.

My eyes have been feeling very gritty and dry lately since my thyroid levels went up. Has anyone else experienced this kind of constant irritation in their eyes?

It is honestly so scary when you notice changes in your eyes or double vision. Please don't panic, as this is a known autoimmune reaction and there are excellent treatments available to control it.
