What causes staghorn kidney stones?
My husband recently had a scan and found out he has a 'staghorn kidney stone'. The name itself sounds scary! What exactly causes these specific types of kidney stones? Are they different from regular stones?

I totally get it, dealing with kidney stones is absolutely agonizing. Staghorn stones are usually caused by repeated urinary tract infections (UTIs) which create a buildup of struvite minerals. Please get proper medical treatment to clear the infection and the stone.
Oh my god, staghorn stones sound so painful because they grow so large and look like antlers! I get so anxious just reading about kidney stones. Please make sure to drink lots of water and go see a doctor immediately before it causes any severe infection.
Staghorn stones are actually different from regular calcium stones because they are usually caused by bacterial infections in the urinary tract, not just food. Still, keeping a clean diet with plenty of fluids and avoiding processed food is very important while you get treated by a doctor.
Staghorn stones actually happen because of chronic urinary infections, yaar. It is not like your regular small stones that just pass out with water, these can grow really huge. You absolutely need to consult a urologist for this, don't ignore it.
I agree that persistent UTIs are the main cause of these large struvite stones. Getting an ultrasound and consulting a urologist is the only right way forward.
