What causes sore throat pain?

Since yesterday, I've had a really bad sore throat, it hurts every time I swallow. I've been drinking warm water, but it's not helping much. What are the usual things that cause this kind of throat pain?

A sore throat is typically caused by viral infections like the common cold, or sometimes bacterial infections like strep. Environmental irritants or acid reflux can also be culprits. If the pain is severe or accompanied by a high fever, it is best to consult a doctor rather than self-medicating.

Honestly, last month my throat hurt so bad I thought it was some severe infection and panicked. But my doc said it was just seasonal allergies and dry air. Gargling with warm salt water for two days cleared it right up, so don't worry.

Usually, changing weather or cold drinks trigger it. I focus on staying hydrated with warm water. If I don't have a fever and the doctor says it is just a mild cold, I still do my daily light walking to keep the blood circulation going, which actually helps me feel better.

Yes, viral infections and pollution are the most common causes. Drinking warm ginger tea always brings quick relief to my throat.

I completely understand how scary even a simple sore throat can feel when you start overthinking it. It is very likely just a mild seasonal bug or dust allergy. Take some rest, sip warm water, and if it doesn't go away in a few days, a quick visit to the doc will put your mind at ease.

These days, even breathing the city air for five minutes gives me a sore throat! It is either the pollution or the ice-cold water my kids keep in the fridge. I just stick to my old reliable salt-water gargle and hope my throat forgives me.
