What causes someone to talk in their sleep?

My roommate often talks in her sleep, sometimes it's just mumbles, other times it sounds like she's having a proper conversation with someone. We find it funny, but I wonder why some people do this. Is it stress?

My roommate tells me I hold full meetings in my sleep! Honestly, it happens to me whenever I pull all-nighters or drink too much chai late at night. The brain just tries to finish the day's drama when you finally sleep.

In our times, we believed sleep talking happens when the mind is unsettled or the stomach is too warm. Try having a glass of warm milk with a pinch of turmeric before sleeping and avoid heavy dinners. Keeping the room cool and calm also helps quieten the mind.

I used to babble and scream in my sleep during a very stressful transition phase at my job. It totally stopped once I started keeping my phone away an hour before bed and doing 10 minutes of deep breathing. It is just stress leaving your system.

I was actually reading a science blog about this yesterday. They call it somniloquy, and it is apparently super common and usually harmless. It can be triggered by stress, fever, or even some medications, so no need to freak out.

When your subconscious mind is processing deep thoughts or fears, it speaks out during sleep. Try to meditate for five minutes before sleeping to release the day's energy. Stay positive, eat a light dinner, and take care of your peace.

Relax, there is nothing wrong with you or anyone who does this. It usually just means the brain is very tired or processing too many things at once. Make sure the person is getting enough rest and don't make fun of them, they just need some quiet time.

I used to feel so embarrassed because I was scared I would blurt out secrets or weird thoughts in front of my family. It made me so anxious to fall asleep. Please know it is very normal and you aren't doing it on purpose, it is just a physical reaction to daytime anxiety.
