What causes someone to sleep all the time?

My cousin sleeps almost all the time, even during the day, and he's still always tired. It's affecting his studies and social life. What could be the reasons behind someone needing to sleep so much?

Have you tracked your sleep cycles on a smart band? Sometimes we sleep for 9 hours but my fitness app shows deep sleep was only 30 minutes, which makes you tired all day. It could be poor sleep quality or low oxygen levels, so do track it.

Sleeping excessively, or hypersomnia, can stem from multiple underlying issues like vitamin D deficiency, thyroid imbalances, or even clinical depression. While lifestyle adjustments might help, consulting a physician for proper blood tests is definitely the safest approach.

I struggle with this so much because of my hormonal issues, especially insulin resistance. Fatigue is so real when your hormones are messed up. Please don't be too hard on yourself, but maybe get a basic hormone panel done to rule out thyroid or PCOS.

Sometimes our body demands rest when the mind is carrying too much emotional weight. Try to start your day with light breathing exercises and stay positive. Take care of your mental peace, and your energy levels will slowly restore.

I also feel very sleepy these days, even after 10 hours of sleep I cannot wake up properly. Is it because of some vitamin deficiency? I am a bit scared to go to the doctor alone, what tests do they normally do for this?

Honestly, I panicked like crazy last year thinking I had some major brain issue because I was sleeping 12 hours a day. Turned out my B12 and Vitamin D levels were almost zero. Don't worry too much, once I took the supplements my energy came back to normal.
