What causes sleep talking?

My younger brother talks a lot in his sleep, sometimes it's just mumbles but other times he's having full conversations. We all find it funny, but is there any specific reason why people do this?

My college roommate told me I talk in my sleep whenever I am stressed about exams. It is usually just your brain processing the day's events during deep sleep. Nothing to worry about honestly.

Sleep talking is often just the mind releasing accumulated thoughts and anxieties of the day. Stay positive, clear your thoughts with a quiet prayer before bed, and take good care of your health.

I barely sleep four hours, but apparently, I use that time to give full lectures in my sleep! It mostly happens when you are sleep-deprived and your brain enters a weird, half-awake state. Just try to get more rest.

I used to talk in my sleep when I had a very hectic work routine. Reducing my caffeine intake in the evening and keeping a journal to write down my thoughts before bed really helped calm my mind.

My son talks in his sleep when he gets overly excited or tired during the day. We make sure he has a quiet, relaxing routine before sleeping, which has really brought down these episodes. It is quite common and harmless.
