What causes sleep apnea?

I've been told by my wife that I snore heavily and sometimes gasp for air during the night. My doctor suggested I might have sleep apnea. I'm trying to understand what factors lead to this condition.

I totally get it, waking up gasping for breath is incredibly scary and exhausting. It is often caused by the muscles in the back of your throat relaxing too much, which blocks your airway. Please get a sleep study done, it can really change your life for the better.

Haan na, weight gain aur bad lifestyle ki wajah se sleep apnea ka problem thoda jyada badh jata hai aajkal. Throat muscles relax ho jaate hain sote waqt jisse breathing rukti hai. Dr. ko dikhana hi best option hai, ignore mat karna.

In my experience, weak throat and respiratory muscles play a big role in sleep apnea. Practicing Pranayama daily, especially Ujjayi and Kapalbhati under proper guidance, helped strengthen my airway. Of course, do consult your physician along with these practices.

My son used to snore heavily and stop breathing for a few seconds because of enlarged tonsils, which is a common cause of sleep apnea in kids. We consulted an ENT specialist who advised a minor procedure, and he sleeps so peacefully now. Do get a proper medical evaluation.
