What causes siatica pain?

Lately, I've had this shooting pain that starts in my lower back and goes all the way down my leg. It makes walking difficult, especially in the mornings. My neighbour said it sounds like sciatica, but I wanted to understand what really causes it.

I get so anxious whenever my leg goes slightly numb, thinking my sciatica nerve is permanently damaged or compressed. It is such a scary sensation when the pain shoots all the way down to your foot. Please see a doctor to get an MRI or X-ray done so you don't overthink like me.

Sciatica pain is typically caused by a herniated disc or bone spur compressing the sciatic nerve in your spine. Based on many discussions here, regular gentle stretching, maintaining good sitting posture, and visiting an orthopedic specialist for targeted physiotherapy are the most effective steps.

I just recovered from a severe bout of sciatica that had locked my left leg completely. What worked was strict bed rest for a week, doctor-prescribed nerve medicines, and then targeted core-strengthening exercises under a physiotherapist. Don't lose hope, it gets better!

Sciatica can be really painful, but with the right exercises and a bit of rest, you can definitely beat it! Try not to sit for long hours and keep moving gently. Wishing you a super speedy recovery, do check with a doctor soon!

With PCOS, the extra weight and pelvic inflammation can sometimes worsen lower back issues and put pressure on the sciatic nerve. I suggest getting a proper medical diagnosis rather than guessing. Be gentle with your body and consult a specialist.

I completely agree that sciatica requires proper nerve care. Please consult a neurologist or physical therapist before trying any heavy exercises.
