What causes shoulder blade pain?

I've been having this dull ache, sometimes sharp, around my right shoulder blade for the past week. It gets worse when I sit for long periods at my desk job. What could be causing this persistent pain there?

I hope you find relief from this pain soon. Most of the time it is just muscle strain, but please rest well and see a doctor if it doesn't get better.

For those of us managing diabetes, muscle stiffness and shoulder blade pain can sometimes be related to frozen shoulder or poor posture. Make sure your blood sugars are stable as high glucose can increase inflammation in the joints. Please consult your physician for proper guidance.

Shoulder blade pain can arise from muscular trigger points, cervical radiculopathy, or internal organ issues. While ergonomics and stretching help, a physical examination by an orthopedic doctor is the safest and most logical step to resolve it.

My thyroid fluctuations often cause chronic muscle aches around my neck and shoulder blades. It is very important to keep your thyroid levels monitored regularly through blood tests. Do follow up with your doctor to rule out any hormonal link.

Whenever I get pain near my left shoulder blade, I start worrying about my lungs or heart, which makes my anxiety spike so badly. It is usually just a bad posture knot from sitting, but getting a doctor to confirm it really helps calm the mind. Please take care.

Shoulder blade pain can sometimes be referred pain from gallbladder issues, cervical spine problems, or even heart conditions. For your own safety, please do not dismiss this as a simple muscle pull. Get a proper clinical evaluation done.

I had terrible shoulder blade pain last winter from carrying a heavy laptop bag on one side. Switching to a backpack and doing simple chest openers and upper back stretches made a huge difference. Try to rest it and see a doctor if it doesn't ease up.

Sitting like a slouch can really make your shoulder blades scream for help! Try doing some gentle shoulder rolls and take regular breaks from your screen. Let's hope it's just a simple muscle knot and goes away with a little rest!

This is highly typical of computer posture strain, also known as desk-job syndrome. A weak upper back or a pinched nerve in the neck can cause stabbing shoulder blade pain. Skip the useless balms and go see a physiotherapist or orthopedic specialist directly.
