What causes rheumatoid arthritis flares?

My wife has rheumatoid arthritis, and sometimes she has these periods where her symptoms suddenly get much worse, what she calls 'flares'. We're trying to figure out what might trigger them. What causes rheumatoid arthritis flares?

I use a health tracker and noticed my resting heart rate goes up and sleep quality drops right before a flare. Flares are often triggered by systemic stress, lack of sleep, or even mild infections. Keeping a symptom log can help, but do consult your doctor for medical support.

Please be very careful because neglecting a flare-up caused severe joint swelling and fluid accumulation for me. Flares happen when your immune system suddenly becomes highly active. Do not try to manage it at home, contact your rheumatologist immediately.

With autoimmune conditions like thyroid and RA, a flare can happen due to hormonal fluctuations or mental stress. It is very important to get your inflammation markers tested regularly. Always consult your doctor to manage these painful episodes safely.

In our experience, keeping the joints warm and drinking hot ginger water can give mild comfort during a painful flare. But remember, this is a deep illness inside the body, so you must always take the medicines prescribed by your doctor.

My mother always says that cold weather and certain foods increase joint pain, which is true to some extent. However, my doctor explained that flares are actually immune system spikes triggered by stress or infections. We must rely on our specialist's advice during these difficult times.
