What causes pain on the top of your feet?

I've recently started feeling a dull ache on the top of my feet, especially after standing for a long time at work. It's not terrible, but it's consistent. Could my shoes be the problem, or something else?

Often, pain on the top of the foot occurs due to tight calves or wearing shoes that are tied too tightly, restricting the flow of energy. Gentle ankle rotations and stretching can bring relief. However, please rest the foot and let a doctor examine it if there is any swelling.

I was just reading about this because my dad started having top-of-foot pain recently. It is quite surprising to find out it can be due to extensor tendinitis, a minor stress fracture, or even nerve compression. I hope you find the right cause and recover quickly!

My mother suggested applying a warm paste of dry ginger and water to reduce the top-of-foot pain, which is our traditional family remedy. However, I highly recommend consulting an orthopaedic doctor to ensure there is no ligament strain or hairline crack in the bones.

I have been feeling a mild, warm ache on the top of my left foot for two days, and I am not sure why. Does this kind of pain get worse when you wear certain types of shoes, or is it better to walk completely barefoot? I would appreciate any gentle advice.

My orthopedist explained that pain on the top of the foot is frequently extensor tendinitis, caused by running on uneven surfaces or tying shoelaces too tight. He advised me to use the ice-compress method and modify my lacing pattern. Please consult a doctor to get a precise diagnosis for your foot.

Please avoid searching for internet remedies or wrapping your foot in random herbal leaves. Top of foot pain can sometimes be a stress fracture that will get worse if you walk on it without proper orthopedic shoes or a plaster cast. Just see a doctor and get an X-ray.
