What causes pain in lower left side of abdomen?

For the past two days, I've had a cramping sort of pain in the lower left side of my abdomen. It comes and goes, and I'm not sure if it's related to my diet or something more specific. What usually causes this kind of pain?

I am not qualified to give medical advice, but in my case, a similar lower left abdominal pain was diagnosed as a mild kidney stone. Drinking plenty of water helped clear it out eventually. You should definitely see a doctor to get an accurate diagnosis.

I literally rushed to the clinic last year thinking my appendix was on the wrong side or something severe was happening. The doctor laughed gently and said it was just severe intestinal gas buildup. Keep calm, but do get checked if the pain is very sharp.

For women, lower left abdomen pain can often be linked to ovarian cysts or menstrual cramps, which is something I deal with due to my PCOS. While it might be hormonal, it could also be gastrointestinal. It's best to consult a doctor to be sure.

I had this too and it was just a severe gastric muscle spasm. Please consult a doctor if the pain is persistent.

At my age, a pain in the lower left abdomen usually means I looked at a plate of chole bhature for too long! It is mostly gas or indigestion nowadays. Still, we shouldn't take chances, so do get it looked at by a doctor if it doesn't clear up.

I have dealt with this recurrent lower left pain for years, and it was diagnosed as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). My advice is to avoid spicy food and keep a food diary to track triggers. But first, get a clinical checkup to rule out any infection.

I had this exact left side pain after a heavy gym session. Turned out to be a minor muscle strain from doing squats with bad form. If it hurts when you move, it might be muscular, but get a doctor to verify.
