What causes pain behind the ear?

For the past few days, I've had a strange pain right behind my ear, kind of near the jawbone area. It's not constant, but it flares up sometimes. What could this be?

Beta, sometimes a cold wind or a minor ear infection from water during bathing can cause this pain. Just keep the area warm with a soft cloth, and if it still hurts tomorrow, go see the local doctor.

I ignored a dull ache behind my ear thinking it was just a headache, but it turned out to be a severe middle ear infection that spread to the bone. Please don't make my mistake, go get an ENT specialist to check it properly.

It can simply be due to mastoiditis, a dental issue, or jaw pain radiating upwards. A practical step is to check if you are clenching your teeth at night, and visit a general physician for a quick physical checkup.

I know how terrifying it is when you get a sharp pain behind the ear and start worrying about nerve issues or worse. Try not to panic, as it is very often just a swollen lymph node or muscle tension from neck posture.

I had this weird ear-ache once and realized it was from chewing on hard tandoori pieces too much, which strained my jaw joint! It could just be a minor strain or a cold, so rest your jaw and see if it goes away.

Neck posture from staring at your phone all day can cause occipital neuralgia, which feels like pain behind the ears. Try doing some gentle neck stretches and track if your screen time reduction helps reduce the ache.

Pain behind the ear is usually related to dental infections, TMJ issues, or occipital neuralgia. Skip the home remedies and consult an ENT doctor directly to get a clear diagnosis.

Unless your spectacles are too tight behind your ears, it is probably just a minor cold block or a muscle pull. Don't worry, you aren't growing antenna, just take a steam and relax!
