What causes pain around the belly button?

I've been feeling a strange, dull pain around my belly button for a couple of days now. It's not very intense but it's there. What could be causing this type of pain specifically in that area?

My 10-year-old son had similar pain around his navel last year and it turned out to be a simple worm infection. We gave him deworming medicine as prescribed by our pediatrician, so maybe check if that is the case.

Pain in the periumbilical region can range from mild indigestion or gas to early appendicitis or an umbilical hernia. Because the causes are so diverse, having a clinical evaluation by a general surgeon or physician is the most logical step.

I know how scary it is when you get that sharp, pulling pain near your belly button and your mind immediately jumps to emergency surgery. Just take a deep breath, many times it is just muscle strain or trapped gas.

Between looking after a newborn and getting zero sleep, my digestive system is totally wrecked, causing weird cramps right around my belly button. It is usually just trapped wind or constipation, nothing a little hot water can't handle.

I have been feeling a weird pinching pain around my belly button for two days now, especially when I stretch. Has anyone else experienced this, or should I be rushing to the hospital right away?

I was convinced I had appendicitis when I felt a dull ache around my navel last month. I rushed to the clinic only for the doctor to tell me it was just severe acidity from a heavy dinner, so try to stay calm.

This could be a minor abdominal muscle strain or hernia, which I sometimes track after doing heavy core workouts. Check if the pain increases when you cough or lift weights, as that is a common sign of a hernia.

I was just reading about this online because my sister had it; apparently, early appendicitis pain starts around the belly button before moving to the lower right side. It is definitely worth keeping an eye on where the pain shifts.

As someone who works around medicine, I always tell people to check for local swelling or tenderness near the navel. It might just be gas or a small umbilical hernia, but if you get a fever or start vomiting, go to the ER immediately.

In my years of dealing with family health, pain around the navel is very common and often links to indigestion or sometimes food poisoning. Just stick to light khichdi for a day, but if the pain becomes sharp, do visit a clinic.

Unless you swallowed a coin as a joke, it is probably just gas from yesterday's heavy chole bhature. Walk around for ten minutes and see if it passes before you start writing your will!
