What causes nerve pain?

My father has been complaining about a burning, tingling sensation in his hand and arm, which he calls 'nerve pain'. He says it's really uncomfortable and sometimes he can't even hold things properly. What usually causes this kind of pain?

Nerve pain can be quite complex, not usually directly linked to diet, but a healthy, balanced diet with enough B vitamins can support nerve health. Causes often include nerve damage from injury, diabetes, certain infections, or even vitamin deficiencies. Please consult a doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment. Self-medication can be risky with nerve issues.

Nerve pain, it's quite distinct from muscle pain, very sharp sometimes. My grandmother used to say it's 'vaayu dosham', but modern science has many reasons. Could be diabetes affecting nerves, injury, or even certain deficiencies. Always best to see a neurologist, they are the specialists for this. Don't delay.

Nerve pain, or neuropathy, stems from damage or dysfunction of the nervous system. Common causes include diabetes, injuries, infections like shingles, vitamin deficiencies, autoimmune diseases, and even certain medications. It's a complex condition, so consulting a neurologist for accurate diagnosis and management is absolutely essential. Self-treating can lead to further complications.

Nerve pain can be quite serious and often requires proper diagnosis, which might involve MRI or nerve conduction studies. These tests can be costly, so it's important to see a general physician first to get a referral if needed, which can save you some money and guide you to the right specialist. Don't let the potential cost deter you from seeking help if the pain is bad.

Nerve pain is usually due to nerve compression or damage. While you need a doctor to diagnose, if they confirm it's not something that restricts movement, sometimes gentle exercises or specific stretches can help manage it. Always check with your doctor or a physiotherapist before starting any physical activity, though, as wrong movements can worsen it.

I've dealt with nerve pain, and it's no joke. It's usually caused by damage or irritation to a nerve, which can be from a trapped nerve, conditions like sciatica or carpal tunnel, diabetes, or even shingles. It needs proper medical attention. Don't try to guess; a neurologist will do tests to find the exact cause and give effective treatment.
