What causes excessive dandruff?

My scalp has been super flaky and itchy lately, no matter what shampoo I use. The dandruff is really bad and noticeable. What causes this kind of excessive dandruff?

Agree with everyone, a dry scalp or a yeast-like fungus called Malassezia is usually the main culprit behind this.

I am also facing this suddenly since winter started. Does washing hair daily make it worse, or should we wash it more often to keep it clean?

My shoulders look like it's snowing in Mumbai during summers! It's usually just an oily scalp partying with fungus, nothing to worry about too much.

For mild dandruff, diluted apple cider vinegar rinses work wonders. But if your scalp is red, bleeding, or extremely itchy, please see a dermatologist as it could be seborrheic dermatitis.

Beta, excessive dandruff happens when the head gets too dry or if you don't wash your comb regularly. Apply a little lemon juice with coconut oil before washing, it worked nicely for my children.
