What causes eczema in babies?

My little one, just 6 months old, has these red patches on her cheeks and arms. My mother-in-law said it might be eczema, but I'm worried. What usually causes it in babies this small?

Hey dear, don't stress too much! Baby skin is super sensitive, and mild eczema is very common because their skin barrier is still developing. Just switch to a baby-safe, fragrance-free lotion and keep those tiny nails trimmed so they don't scratch.

I completely understand how terrifying it is to see red, dry patches on your little baby's skin; it made me so anxious when my daughter had it. Please take a deep breath, it is highly treatable and very common. Just let your pediatrician guide you on the right cream.

Baby eczema is often triggered by environmental factors like synthetic clothes, room temperature, or laundry detergents. I used a tracking app to note down when the rashes flared up, and realized it was our regular detergent. Switching to a baby-friendly, chemical-free detergent solved it.

Sometimes eczema in breastfed babies can be linked to certain foods in the mother's diet, or early solid foods. However, don't make any sudden dietary changes or cut out food groups without discussing it with your pediatrician first.

I was just reading about this for my nephew, and apparently, a baby's skin loses moisture much faster than adult skin. This dryness, combined with friction from woollen clothes or drool, easily leads to eczema. It seems keeping them gently moisturized is the best first step.
