What causes cancer sores?

I often get these painful sores in my mouth, usually on my lips or inside my cheeks, and they make eating and talking very difficult. My mother calls them 'chhale'. What causes these recurring canker sores?

In our days, we believed mouth sores were due to excess body heat or stomach upset. Applying a little honey or rinsing with warm salt water can provide gentle relief. However, if the sore does not heal in two weeks or if it bleeds, you must consult a proper doctor immediately to rule out serious conditions.

My health app logged that my mouth ulcers usually pop up when my sleep tracker shows poor deep sleep and high stress. Nutritional deficiencies, like low vitamin B12 or iron, are also very common triggers. Tracking your symptoms alongside your diet can give you great insights before you visit your dentist.

Please do not apply random pastes or home remedies you read about online on chronic mouth sores. A persistent, non-healing ulcer in the mouth can sometimes be a sign of oral cancer, especially if there is a history of tobacco use. Get it clinically examined by a dentist or an ENT specialist to get an accurate diagnosis.

I was researching this because I get them often, and I found out they are actually called canker sores, which are non-contagious. They can be triggered by minor mouth injuries, acidic foods, or even an immune reaction. It is quite annoying but usually harmless, though persistent ones definitely need medical evaluation.

Oh, these are so painful and make eating absolute torture! I usually get them when I am super stressed during my exams or if I accidentally bite the inside of my cheek. I use a soothing oral gel recommended by my doctor and try to avoid spicy food until it heals.
