What causes butt pain?

Since last month, I've been getting this strange pain in my butt area, especially when I sit for a long time or try to stand up. It's not like muscle pain from exercise. My daily chores are becoming difficult because of it.

Often, buttock pain is caused by piriformis syndrome, where a small pelvic muscle tightens and irritates the sciatic nerve. Practicing gentle stretches like Pigeon Pose (Kapotasana) under proper guidance helped me relieve this deep ache. Please do it gently and don't force the stretch.

Butt pain can be caused by anything from simple muscle strain to sciatica or even a tailbone injury. Since nerve compression can worsen if ignored, it is very important to get evaluated by an orthopedic doctor. Please avoid self-treatment until you have a proper diagnosis.

If you sit for long hours, the pain could be due to gluteal muscle strain or a bursa inflammation. Try taking frequent standing breaks at work and use an ergonomic cushion to relieve pressure. If the pain starts radiating down your leg, you should definitely consult a doctor.

Physical pain is often a sign that our body is holding onto stress and needs us to slow down. Please take some quiet time to rest, apply a warm compress to the area, and keep a positive mind. Let a doctor guide you on the physical recovery while you keep your spirit calm.

I ignored a deep pain in my buttock thinking it was just gym soreness, but it turned out to be a severe pilonidal sinus infection that eventually required surgery. Please do not ignore any swelling, warmth, or persistent pain in that area. Go see a doctor and get it checked early.

I had terrible butt pain after I started a heavy squats workout at the gym, and it made sitting at my desk miserable. For me, regular foam rolling and warm water baths helped ease the glute tightness. Just make sure you aren't pushing yourself too hard if it hurts.
