What causes ascites in liver failure?

My father-in-law has been feeling very weak lately, and his stomach has become quite swollen. The doctor mentioned ascites because of his liver issues. I want to understand what exactly causes this fluid buildup when the liver is not working properly.

From what I read in my biology lectures, when the liver fails, it can't make enough proteins like albumin, which keeps fluid from leaking out of blood vessels. Plus, the scarred liver blocks blood flow, raising pressure in the portal vein. This combo makes fluid pool in the belly, which is called ascites. Definitely a serious medical situation.

When the liver is severely unwell, the body struggles to manage its fluid balance, leading to accumulation in the abdomen. It is a challenging phase for the body, but stay positive and keep your faith strong while the doctors do their work. Please take care and follow the medical advice strictly.

Ascites is a direct consequence of advanced liver scarring, or cirrhosis. The increased pressure in the liver's blood vessels forces fluid out into the abdominal cavity, and the lack of albumin makes it worse. This is a critical stage of liver disease and requires immediate, expert medical management without any delay.

My husband went through this during his liver treatment, and the doctor explained it was due to portal hypertension and low protein levels. To manage it, you must strictly limit salt intake as prescribed and stay on top of the diuretic medicines. Do not miss the fluid draining sessions if the doctor recommends them.

Ascites is a very serious symptom of liver failure and can lead to dangerous infections if ignored. Please do not try any home remedies or wait for it to get better on its own. Go to a hospital immediately and get a gastroenterologist to examine the fluid build-up safely.
