What causes a sore kidney?

For the past few days, I've had this dull ache in my lower back, and it feels like it's where my kidneys are. It's not severe, but it's persistent. What causes a sore kidney or discomfort in that area?

Bhai, mostly this pain happens when we don't drink enough water in the summer heat, or if there is a small stone. Drink plenty of clean water and fresh coconut water to wash out the heat. If the pain is very sharp, please visit the town doctor quickly.

A sore feeling in the kidney area is often due to a urinary tract infection (UTI) or back muscle strain. Please rest well and drink plenty of fluids. If the pain is accompanied by fever or burning urination, please see a doctor.

Sometimes a dull ache in the lower back is mistaken for kidney soreness, which can be due to poor sitting posture and lack of spinal flexibility. Gentle stretches and staying hydrated help a lot. However, if it's an internal ache, a doctor's checkup is necessary.

My daughter had a similar soreness and we found out she had a mild kidney infection from a neglected UTI. Please do a simple urine routine test, it costs very little and gives a clear picture. Don't let them hold their urine for long hours.

Kidney issues should never be self-diagnosed or ignored, as infections can spread quickly. If the soreness is on one side of your upper back, it could be a stone or infection. Please go to a hospital and get an ultrasound done for proper safety.

Usually, it is either dehydration or a minor stone trying to pass. Drink at least 3 liters of water daily and avoid too much salty food or spinach for a few days. Getting a basic kidney function test (KFT) from a local lab is a very practical way to be sure.
