What causes a retinal migraine?

I sometimes experience these weird visual disturbances, like flashing lights or blind spots in one eye, usually followed by a headache. Someone mentioned it could be a 'retinal migraine'. What causes a retinal migraine?

This usually happens due to sudden spasms in the blood vessels of your eye, beta. Rest your eyes, put a cool cloth over your forehead, and avoid looking at bright screens in a dark room. But please consult an eye specialist to be absolutely safe.

Between looking at office excel sheets and late-night family WhatsApp groups, my eyes just decided to go blank for a few minutes! Doctor says it's retinal migraine caused by blood vessel spasms. My body's way of telling me 'stop looking at screens, old lady!'

It's caused by temporary blood vessel constriction in the eye. It is really scary to lose vision in one eye suddenly, so please get it checked.

For me, high blood pressure and stress were the main culprits behind these eye issues. When my BP spikes, it affects the delicate vessels in the eyes. Please get your BP monitored and live a more disciplined lifestyle.

Whenever I get that sudden blind spot, I immediately sit down in a dark room and drink a big glass of water. Taking regular breaks of 5 minutes every hour from the computer screen has really helped me manage this without spending too much.

Dehydration and screen glare are huge triggers for retinal migraines. I started tracking my water intake and using blue-light filters on all my devices, which really reduced the frequency. Try maintaining a daily log to find your triggers.

Since it involves sudden vision changes, you should never take a chance with this. It could be a retinal migraine, but it is critical to rule out other retinal issues. Please schedule an appointment with an eye doctor as soon as possible.

When my left eye went partially blind for 15 minutes, I thought I was having a major stroke and panicked so badly! It turned out to be just a retinal migraine, but the anxiety was unreal. Sending you lots of strength, please get it checked so you can sleep peacefully.

Sudden vision loss in one eye can be a sign of many serious conditions, not just a simple retinal migraine. Please do not rely on home tips or internet forums for this. Go to an ophthalmologist immediately for a proper dilated eye exam.

I totally get it, losing vision in one eye even for a few minutes is absolutely terrifying and makes you panic. It usually happens when the blood flow to the eye gets temporarily reduced. Please be gentle with yourself and rest in a quiet place.
