What causes a low thyroid level?

My wife got her blood tests done and the report says her thyroid level is low. She's been feeling a bit sluggish, gaining weight too. What causes low thyroid levels in the first place?

I have been managing low thyroid levels for seven years now. It usually happens when your immune system attacks the gland, or due to a lack of iodine in your diet. My best tip is to take your thyroid medicine on an empty stomach first thing in the morning and wait at least an hour before drinking tea or coffee.

Thyroid issues are incredibly common now, and the solution is actually quite straightforward. It is usually caused by the thyroid gland not producing enough hormone. Just get a standard blood test done, show it to a doctor, and they will likely give you a tiny, very cheap pill to take daily.

When my wife's thyroid levels dropped, we went to a reputable hospital to get a full endocrinology workup. The specialist explained that it could be due to autoimmune issues or family history. Please don't try self-treatment; go to a proper hospital and ask your doctor to explain the blood reports clearly.

Low thyroid levels, or hypothyroidism, can sometimes be linked to nutritional deficiencies like iodine or selenium. While eating a balanced vegetarian diet with iodized salt and fresh vegetables supports overall health, you should consult an endocrinologist to see if you need hormone replacement therapy.

I panicked when my TSH level came back high, thinking it was a major chronic illness. But my doctor reassured me that subclinical hypothyroidism is very common and easily managed with a small daily tablet. Once I started the treatment, my fatigue vanished and everything went back to normal.

PCOS and low thyroid often go hand-in-hand because both are linked to hormonal imbalances. It can make weight management really difficult and cause constant tiredness. It's best to consult a specialist who can look at both conditions together instead of trying to self-treat.
