What causes a large liver?

During a routine check-up, my doctor mentioned my liver felt a bit larger than normal. He said we'll monitor it, but I'm quite worried. What generally causes a large liver?

An enlarged liver, or hepatomegaly, can happen due to fatty liver, infections, or alcohol. Don't go to expensive labs directly; a basic abdominal ultrasound only costs about 800 to 1200 rupees and will give you a clear picture. Plan your tests at a government-approved lab to save money.

An enlarged liver is very common these days, mostly due to fatty liver disease from our modern oily diets, or sometimes viral hepatitis. Don't panic, dear. Just avoid fried foods completely, drink plenty of warm water, and show your ultrasound report to a good physician for proper treatment.

My ultrasound report just showed an enlarged liver of 15.5 cm and I am feeling so anxious about it. Did anyone else feel a dull pain on the right side of their stomach with this? Please share what your doctor advised and how long it took to go back to normal.

An enlarged liver usually just means your liver is working extra hard to process fatty foods or alcohol! 🥦 Swapping those heavy dinners for fresh veggies and taking a daily walk can help it shrink back to its happy, healthy size. Definitely see a doctor to get a proper diet plan!

At 50, my liver has decided to expand just like my waistline, mostly thanks to years of heavy ghee parathas and zero exercise. Fatty liver is the most common reason for this enlargement. Time to listen to the doctor, cut down on the sweets, and start acting my age!

Having PCOS makes us much more prone to insulin resistance, which often leads to a fatty and enlarged liver. I have to be very careful with my sugar levels and get regular blood tests done. I highly recommend consulting an endocrinologist or physician to look at your overall metabolic health.

When I was told my liver was enlarged, I spent nights crying thinking my health was permanently failing. It was emotionally exhausting, but I realized it was just a warning sign from my body to stop neglecting myself. With a clean diet and stress management, my liver size came back to normal, so please stay strong.

I completely understand how terrifying it is to see the word 'hepatomegaly' on your report, as I went through the same anxiety last year. In my case, it was just Grade 1 fatty liver which was totally reversible with diet changes. Take a deep breath, go to your doctor, and you will see it is highly manageable.
