What causes a fever to come and go?

My younger sister has had a fever that keeps coming and going for the past week. We're a bit worried because it's not staying away. What could cause a fever to behave like that?

A fluctuating or intermittent fever can be caused by infections like malaria, typhoid, or sometimes tuberculosis. I always suggest keeping a written log of the temperature and timing so you can show it to your doctor for an accurate diagnosis.

If your fever is coming and going, it is not a simple cold. This pattern is classic for tropical infections like malaria, dengue, or even a deep bacterial infection. Stop waiting for it to resolve on its own, get a complete blood count (CBC) and malaria test done.

I completely agree with the others. A fever that keeps returning is often a sign of specific infections like typhoid or urinary tract issues, and needs proper medical testing.

My temperature goes down with medicine but shoots up again every 8 hours, and honestly, I am so worried. Has anyone else experienced this kind of repeating fever? What did your tests show?

A fever that comes and goes is usually a sign that the body is struggling to fully clear an infection. While warm fluids and sponge baths help manage the heat temporarily, you should not rely on home tips for a fluctuating fever. Please consult a doctor for a proper blood test.
