What caused yellow fever in 1793?

I was watching a historical documentary, and they mentioned a huge yellow fever outbreak back in 1793. It got me thinking, what exactly caused that disease to spread so much back then? Was it like a pandemic or something?

Nature has its own ways, and back in 1793, people did not have the knowledge we have today. The outbreak was caused by infected mosquitoes breeding in the hot, wet summer weather near the docks. Let us be thankful for modern medicine and pray for global health.

Simply put, the 1793 epidemic was caused by the yellow fever virus, which is spread by infected mosquitoes. The hot and humid weather, combined with poor sanitation in port cities back then, created the perfect breeding ground for them. Today, we have excellent vaccines to prevent this entirely.

My sleep schedule is so ruined that I am reading about 18th-century diseases at 3 AM. Turns out, it was all because of the Aedes aegypti mosquito breeding like crazy in stagnant water in Philadelphia. Note to self: buy more mosquito coils tomorrow.

I am no doctor, but I love reading history. The 1793 yellow fever outbreak in the US was caused by an influx of infected mosquitoes and people arriving from the Caribbean during a very hot summer. It was a terrible time, but mosquito control eventually helped stop it.

Don't worry, yellow fever is not something you will easily get today thanks to vaccines. Back in 1793, the Philadelphia epidemic was caused by virus-carrying mosquitoes that arrived on ships with refugees. Just focus on keeping your surroundings clean and mosquito-free.
