What blood tests indicate kidney disease?

My mother has been having some swelling in her feet, and the doctor is checking her kidneys. What kind of blood tests can show if someone has kidney disease? I'm trying to learn more about it.

I totally get it, waiting for health reports can be so scary. For kidneys, they mainly check Serum Creatinine, Blood Urea Nitrogen, and eGFR. Please stay strong, and let the doctor guide you through the next steps.

If you are planning tests, ask for a complete Kidney Function Test (KFT) package. Separately, creatinine and urea can cost more, but a package usually comes around Rs 500-800 in most local labs. It is much more practical.

When my son had a kidney scare, the doctor ordered a KFT alongside a urine routine test to check for protein leak. It's best to get both done together because urine results give a very clear picture of kidney health.

The primary markers we look for are serum creatinine and blood urea. A high creatinine level usually indicates that the kidneys are filtering a bit slower. They will calculate your eGFR from this to see the exact stage.

The main blood tests are Serum Creatinine and Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN). High levels of these usually point towards kidney issues.
