What are the symptoms of a kidney infection?

I've been having a burning sensation when I pee and some lower back pain. A friend told me it sounds like a kidney infection. What exactly are the symptoms of a kidney infection?

I got so terrified last year when I had this extreme lower back pain and shivering, thought my kidneys were failing! It turned out to be a standard infection that got cleared up with antibiotics in a week. Just get a urine culture done and don't panic, it is quite common.

Make sure you track your daily water intake on an app because dehydration often triggers UTIs that can travel to the kidneys. Common signs include burning micturition, lower back pain, and a sudden spike in body temperature. If your log shows low hydration and you have these, see a doctor.

Before you go for expensive scans, just get a basic urine routine and microscopic test done, it costs barely 150 to 200 rupees. If there are high pus cells, then you know it is an infection. A doctor can then give you the exact antibiotics instead of you wasting money on random meds.

Getting old means every small backache makes you wonder if your kidney is complaining! But seriously, if the pain comes with high fever, chills, and running to the bathroom every ten minutes, it's a kidney infection. Get it treated before you spend your night groaning in bed.

Actually, my flatmate had this last month yaar. He was feeling super cold even under two blankets, and had terrible burning while passing urine. He ignored it for two days but then the back pain got so bad we had to rush to the clinic.

In our times, we used to drink barley water (jowar/jo ka paani) and tender coconut water to cool the body down during urine infections. But remember, if the pain reaches your back or if there is fever, these home remedies are not enough. You must consult a doctor.

I can only share what happened to me when I had a kidney issue. I had this deep, throbbing pain on my left side, right under the ribs, and felt very nauseated. I did not try any home remedies and went straight to my family doctor who resolved it.

Please keep your mind calm and drink plenty of warm water to help flush the system. Symptoms like painful urination and fever are just the body's way of asking for care. Trust the doctors, take your medicines on time, and bless your body with rest.

A kidney infection usually starts as a basic bladder infection, so look out for cloudy, foul-smelling urine and a burning sensation. Once it hits the kidneys, you will get severe flank pain and a high-grade fever with chills. You'll definitely need doctor-prescribed antibiotics for this.

I have been feeling a mild, dull ache on one side of my lower back for a couple of days, but there is no fever yet. Does a kidney infection always start with a very high fever, or can it just be a slow back pain at the beginning? I am a bit confused.

Please do not ignore this. I thought my backache was just from driving and delayed going to the clinic until I was vomiting and shivering with a 103 fever. I had to be hospitalized for IV fluids. Go get a urine test immediately if you suspect anything.

Drinking cranberry juice and lots of water can help prevent mild bladder irritation. But a kidney infection is a serious matter and can cause permanent damage if left untreated. If you have fever, vomiting, or back pain, please see a doctor immediately.
