What are the side effects of radiation for lung cancer?

My uncle was recently diagnosed with lung cancer, and the doctors are recommending radiation. We are very worried about him and want to understand what kind of side effects he might experience. What are the common issues that people face after this treatment?

Lung radiation often causes a dry cough, shortness of breath, and difficulty swallowing because the esophagus gets inflamed. A practical solution we found was giving my dad lukewarm, soft foods and using a humidifier in his room to keep the air moist. It really helped his throat.

Radiation around the chest area commonly leads to fatigue and skin changes on your back or chest. Some patients also develop radiation pneumonitis, which is basically an inflammation of the lungs. Keep your doctor informed if you notice a sudden increase in cough or fever.

Babuji ko jab sek lagti thi chhati par, toh unhe gale me bohot jalan hoti thi aur khana nigalne me takleef hoti thi. Hum unhe thandi kheer aur dahi dete the jisse unhe aaram milta tha. Pura din unhe sulate the taaki unka sharir thake nahi.

When my mother had lung radiation, she experienced significant fatigue that usually hit her a few hours after the daily treatment. She also had a persistent ticklish cough and a sore throat, which her doctor said was due to the radiation field. She just rested as much as possible.

Actually, lung radiation can make you feel super breathless and tired, yaar. My neighbor went through it and he said swallowing water even felt like a task because of the throat irritation. You just have to eat soft meals and avoid anything spicy.

My uncle had this, and honestly, the chest soreness made it really hard for him to eat solid food for a couple of weeks. He survived on soups and soft khichdi. The skin on his chest also got quite red and itchy, like a bad sunburn.
