What are the normal ranges for liver enzymes?

My father recently had some blood tests done, and the doctor mentioned his liver enzymes were a bit off. I'm trying to understand what the normal range for these enzymes usually is, so I can help keep track.

I am trying to understand my medical report, and it says my ALT is 45. Is that considered within the safe limit, or should I be worried about liver swelling? Any gentle guidance would really help.

From what I gathered while researching online, normal AST/SGOT is typically 8 to 48 U/L, and ALT/SGPT is around 7 to 56 U/L. But honestly, these reference ranges can change slightly from one testing laboratory to another.

Keep it simple: SGOT and SGPT should ideally be under 40-50 U/L. If your reports show anything significantly higher, skip the Google searches and head straight to a gastroenterologist for an ultrasound.

Since I have to monitor my thyroid parameters regularly, I always get my liver panel checked too as safety. Generally, enzymes should be under 50 U/L. If they are elevated, please consult a physician and repeat the test after a few weeks.

If your SGPT is showing high, it is probably just your liver screaming because of all those weekend biryanis! Normally it should be under 50, so maybe cut down the extra butter for a week and get it retested.
