What are the most common types of kidney stones?

My brother recently had a kidney stone, and the doctor explained it was a certain type. I never knew there were different kinds. What are the most common types of kidney stones that people get?

Calcium oxalate stones are by far the most common type. Uric acid and struvite stones are also quite frequent.

I am trying to research this because my brother was just diagnosed with a small stone. I read that calcium oxalate is the most common kind. Does anyone know if eating too much dairy actually causes these stones, or is that just a myth?

In my fifty years, I have seen many friends suffer from calcium oxalate and uric acid stones. The biggest lesson is that drinking less water is the root cause of all of them. Keep yourself well hydrated throughout the day, and you will save yourself a lot of pain.

Oh god, I heard calcium oxalate stones are caused by spinach and tomatoes, which are in literally all my favorite curries! Uric acid stones are also common, especially if you eat a lot of heavy proteins. I guess I really need to double my water intake to balance out my food love!

Calcium oxalate and uric acid stones are the ones we see most often. Drinking barley water or coconut water helps flush out small crystals naturally. But if you have severe back pain or blood in your urine, please don't wait and go straight to a doctor.
