What are the different stages of breast cancer?

My aunt is undergoing treatment for breast cancer, and her doctors talked about different stages. I want to understand what these stages mean for breast cancer.

Breast cancer is typically staged from 0 to IV. Stage 0 is non-invasive. Stages I, II, and III involve increasingly larger tumors and/or spread to nearby lymph nodes. Stage IV is metastatic cancer, meaning it has spread to distant parts of the body. Early detection through regular self-exams and mammograms is critical for better outcomes across all stages.

It's a really difficult journey for anyone facing this. Knowing the stages helps doctors, but for the person, it's about courage. I hope everyone gets the support they need.

I totally get why understanding the stages is important, it helps to process the diagnosis. It's a devastating thing to go through. From what I understand, the stages (0 to IV) describe how far the cancer has spread. It must be so overwhelming to hear. Sending strength to anyone dealing with this.

While my experience is with childhood health, I've learned that for any cancer, staging (like 0 to IV for breast cancer) is crucial for treatment planning. It helps doctors decide on surgery, chemo, radiation. For parents, early detection and clear understanding from oncologists are vital. Support and practical care for the patient are most important.
