What are perpetuating factors in mental health?

I'm studying psychology and learning about mental health conditions. I came across the term 'perpetuating factors' and am trying to grasp it fully. Can someone explain what are perpetuating factors in mental health, maybe with an example?

These are the daily habits or situations that keep your stress or anxiety alive, preventing you from healing. In my experience, constant screen time and neglecting pranayama or quiet breathing exercises can prolong our mental struggles. Slowing down helps break this cycle.

Think of them as things that maintain a problem once it has started. For instance, if you have anxiety, avoiding social situations or skipping meals might make the anxiety stay longer. Identifying these patterns with a therapist is a very practical way to recover.

Haan na, like if you are already depressed and you keep staying alone in a dark room all day, that habit just makes it worse. Those are perpetuating factors that don't let you recover easily, ho na? We must try to take small steps out.

They are basically the things in your life that keep keeping your mental health issues going instead of letting them heal. It is really tough when you get stuck in that loop.

I am just starting to learn about therapy concepts to help with my low moods. Are things like poor sleep or arguing with family also considered perpetuating factors? I would love to know how to identify mine.

These are clinical variables that maintain the psychiatric condition over time, like ongoing job stress or lack of support. When I visited the psychiatry dept at Apollo, they explained how identifying these is key to therapy. Please discuss this with a qualified therapist for clear guidance.
