What are pain clinics?

My mother has chronic back pain and her doctor suggested she visit a 'pain clinic'. I'm not familiar with these, so can someone explain what are pain clinics and what kind of treatment they offer?

They are specialized centers where different specialists work together to help you manage long-term pain. Instead of just giving painkiller pills, they look at therapy, nerve blocks, and lifestyle changes. I always suggest people with chronic back pain check them out as they focus on improving your daily life quality.

Honestly, pain clinics are great because they dont just treat the symptom, they look at mobility and rehab. I had a bad shoulder injury last year, and they helped me combine physiotherapy with targeted exercises so I could get back to my workouts safely. It's a very systematic approach.

I am actually hearing about this term for the first time today. My mother has severe knee pain, so can we directly visit a pain clinic or do we need a referral letter from her regular ortho doc first? Pls let me know if anyone has gone through this.

Look, don't go by what people write on online forums or random YouTube videos about managing severe pain at home. A proper pain clinic will have certified anesthesiologists and specialists. Always verify their credentials and consult your primary doctor before starting any therapy there.

I was looking into these clinics for my chronic migraines because normal medicines aren't working anymore. But I am thoda scared of what procedures they might do. Has anyone here actually visited one, and did it really help reduce your anxiety and pain?
