What are markers in cancer?

My friend's mother was recently diagnosed with cancer and the doctors keep mentioning 'markers'. I want to understand more about it. What are these 'markers' in cancer?

These are substances found in blood or tissue when cancer is present, right? My doctor suggested some tumor marker tests last week and I'm honestly so scared to get the blood drawn. Has anyone else gone through this wait for reports?

They are indicators in your blood that show if something is wrong. Please, if your doctor has mentioned these tests, go get them done immediately. I delayed my checkup for months thinking it was normal gas, and I paid a very heavy price for that laziness.

They are called tumor markers, which can go up due to non-cancerous issues too. That's why you should never try to interpret these reports yourself using Google. Only show them to an oncologist or physician to be absolutely safe.

They are blood indicators that show if therapy is working. We had to track these regularly for my child's treatment last year. It looks very scary on paper, but just trust your pediatrician and oncology team to guide you through.

These markers help in tracking how well the body is fighting or responding to treatment. While undergoing medical tests, keep your mind steady with deep breathing and pranayama. A calm nervous system helps the body heal much better.

These are just chemical signals in the body that help doctors monitor what's happening inside. Don't run to expensive private labs directly. You can get these blood tests done at government diagnostic centers or charitable labs for much cheaper.
