What are diabetes feet?

My uncle has had diabetes for a long time, and he's been complaining about some issues with his feet, like numbness and tingling. His doctor called it 'diabetic feet.' What exactly does this mean and what should we watch out for?

Hey, don't stress too much about the scary terms you read online! It basically refers to foot complications like numbness or slow-healing sores that happen when sugar levels stay high. Just make sure to wear comfortable, soft slippers and keep your feet clean and dry daily.

I made the huge mistake of ignoring a small blister on my toe thinking it would heal on its own, and it turned into a major infection. If you have diabetes, even a tiny cut on your foot needs immediate attention from a doctor. Please get a regular foot sensation test done at the clinic before things get worse.

When my father started losing sensation in his toes, we immediately took him to a specialized diabetic clinic at a major hospital. The doctors there explained how high glucose levels affect blood flow to the extremities. I highly recommend asking your doctor to check your foot pulses and sensation during your next visit.

High sugar can cause nerve damage and poor blood circulation in the legs, which is often called diabetic foot. I had to undergo months of treatment for a foot ulcer because I didn't seek medical help early enough. Please go to a hospital and consult a podiatrist or diabetologist if you feel any tingling or numbness.

Getting diabetic foot complications can lead to very expensive wound dressings and hospital stays later on. It is much cheaper to buy a pair of good quality, soft diabetic socks and check your feet daily at home with a small mirror. Preventive care and simple checkups at a local clinic will save you a lot of money.
