What are cavities?

I recently went for a dental check-up, and the dentist said I have a 'cavity'. I know it's a common problem, but I'm not exactly sure what it means. What are cavities?

They are tooth decay holes caused by bacteria and sugary foods. When I visited my dentist last month, she explained that if you catch them early, they can be easily fixed with simple fillings. It is best to visit a good dental clinic and ask them to check your teeth properly.

Cavities are basically permanently damaged areas in the hard surface of your teeth that develop into tiny openings or holes. I ignored mine until I needed a painful root canal, so don't make that mistake. Brush twice a day, use dental floss, and get them filled as soon as they are spotted.

Bro, cavities are basically holes in your teeth from eating too many chocolates and sleeping without brushing. I just got two fillings done last week and it was not fun. Seriously, start brushing at night if you want to save your pocket money.

Yar, cavities aur kuch nahi bas daant me sadan hoti hai jo meetha khane se aur brush na karne se hoti hai, haan. Agar thoda bhi pain ho toh turant dentist ko dikha lo, nahi toh baad me rct karwana padega.

They are tiny holes that form when tooth decay is left untreated. I just noticed a dark spot on my molar and I am so anxious that it might require a major surgery or extraction. Has anyone else felt this nervous before going to the dentist?
